Where does the +0.3 L/100 km per +100 kg come from?
It’s a common rule-of-thumb for medium vans. Real impact depends on speed, aero, engine and hills. The calculator is for planning: measure your own before/after over several tanks to calibrate.
Should I include water and passengers in “extra weight”?
If you regularly drive with them, yes. If you only want to price the impact of removable cargo, enter just that to see what ditching it would save per year.
Why ask for base consumption?
So the tool can estimate the **share of your fuel** being burned just to move the extra weight. If you don’t know it, use your recent average without heavy cargo.
Can I change the tank size?
The tool assumes 80 L for a simple “extra tanks per year” stat. Treat it as illustrative; the money and litres per year are the key numbers.
How can I reduce the wasted share?
Remove low-value heavy items, relocate gear forward and low, choose lighter materials, and slow down a bit. Weight and speed both hit consumption hard.
