Series vs Parallel Optimizer
Test your panel specs against an MPPT window and quickly find valid series/parallel (S×P) combinations with resulting Voc, Vmp, and Imp.
Why target the middle of the MPPT window?
Controllers track best with voltage headroom above Vmin and margin below Vmax. Centering S×Vmp buffers temperature and irradiance swings, reducing clipping or dropouts.
Does this account for cold Voc limits?
No. This optimizer focuses on the **operating window (Vmp)** and input current. Use the **MPPT Controller Picker** to validate **cold Voc ≤ controller Vmax**.
What if my panel Imp times P exceeds Imax slightly?
Stay **at or below** Imax. If your ideal P would exceed it, either reduce **P** or move to a controller with a higher input current rating.
Is it OK if S×Vmp is close to Vmin?
It will work but can sag below Vmin when panels warm up or under shade/mismatch. Prefer sitting **well above Vmin** unless your climate is consistently cool.
Can I mix panel models or ages in the same string?
Avoid mixing in **series**; mismatch drags current to the weakest panel. If mixing is unavoidable, do it **in parallel** with matched strings and independent fusing/combiner.
